“Over 30 detoxes, rehabs and sober houses and the message I was taught in every single one was that addiction was going to be an up-hill battle and it would be a struggle to stay sober for the rest of my life.
Finally, in 2014 I arrived at a 12-step treatment facility that told a different story about what recovery could look like. It offered me a way of life where I would not have to “hold onto my seat” everyday to be content and stay sober. The 12-steps would teach me responsibility, compassion and smash any delusions I had of what “I thought was best”. This did not happen overnight but with 8 months in 12-step structured sober living my life, relationships and sobriety grew.
Fast forward to now, 2022, I have cultivated a life I never thought possible. 12-step programs are dying (falling by the wayside in favor of clinical programs and chemical solutions). I want other women to have the opportunity I did in the 12- steps. 12-step structured sober living provides a safe opportunity to recover. I have watched countless individuals and families get their lives back and we are willing to do what it takes to offer what saved our lives. I do this because I believe in it. I believe in it because I am proof that no addict is hopeless and we all have a chance to not only stay sober but also completely change our lives.”

“At 30 years old, I found myself in total darkness. Unwell and unstable from years of poor decisions and poor treatment. I made one more attempt to change my life, not even really believing it to be possible.
In a structured 12 Step sober house, I found people who supported me in taking action in the 12 Steps. These were people who had been where I was and who were kind, patient, caring and supportive of a future I didn’t yet see for myself. I found a path forward from a life I couldn’t stand to live any more. The support of those people and what they taught me, patiently and devotedly, changed absolutely everything about my life, my beliefs, and who I am as a person.
Since that time, it has been my mission to help people receive that life-changing support. What I received is not nearly available enough for people who want to change their lives. We aim to change that.”

My involvement with drugs and alcohol began in my early teenage years almost 25 years ago. I only knew that they took me out of myself, masking my feelings around the things I thought I was missing in my life, and I would want to chase that feeling over learning how to handle life on life’s terms. Over the last 10 or so years I would struggle with admitting I was alcoholic, maintaining balance in my life and trying to reach sobriety on my own will power with minimal success.
Being a guest at Allston street and working the Twelve Steps of A.A., as outlined here, has given me the tools and principles I desperately needed. Doing so has allowed me to become a part of a community, to live my life free of alcohol and substance use, and start to rebuild my relationships with my family and many others who are important to me. I’m learning everyday how to have a better outlook and a new experience with life, how to go forward and help others in the community, and to help those who still struggle with alcoholism and addiction through this work.
